10/23/2010
Tournament rained out
Saturday
Silverstreak won the first game 4-3 against Lady Hustle on a strong pitching performance by Shaylyn Borowiak and a quick start by the offense.  Shay struck out 12 over 6 no hit innings, but a subpar defensive performance allowed three runs.  Silverstreak had 4 hits and two walks in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs.  Silverstreak picked up a critical insurance run in the third when Delanie Chrisman reached 2nd on a throwing error and stole third.  Katie Quist brought her in with a groundout to the right side.  Lady Hustle picked up two runs in the top of the fifth to tighten the score, but Silverstreak emerged with the victory.

In the second game, Silverstreak defeated California Magic 16-3  Kady Poulos threw six solid innings, and kept the shutout through 4 while Silverstreak built their lead.  Silverstreak scored in every inning, including 5 in the fourth and 7 in the sixth to close the door.  Ciera Begley went 3-4 with a triple, 2 runs and 2 rbi.  Kaone Hunter crushed a double over the left fielder's head.  Everyone on the team scored at least once, and eight different players got a hit. 

In the third game, Silverstreak was down 3-0 after two innings against a very tough Fresno Force-Reynolds team.  In the top of the third, Silverstreak had a runner on 2nd and no outs when the rain became too much for the pitchers. 
The umpires called the game, and the score was technically 0-0.  Koane Hunter was pitching very well against a very tough team.  Shaylyn was unable to pitch after being hit in her right hand with a pitch in the previous game.

Sunday
Sunday was completely rained out.

Silverstreak goes 6-0 to win third ASA tournament of the fall.
Silverstreak survives tough challenges from West Coast Ghosts and '97 California Breeze to win third tournament of the fall.


Saturday
In the first game, Silverstreak defeated the Rocklin Hype 5-0 behind a strong pitching performance by Shaylyn Borowiak.  Shay struck out 8 over 6 innings while allowing only 2 hits and no walks.  Nina Cook led off the game with a walk and worked her way around the bases to give Silverstreak a 1-0 lead after one.  The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth, when Silverstreak broke through with 5 hits and four more runs.  Baylee Opperman went 2 for 3, and Kaone Hunter hit a triple to key the offense.

In game 2, Silverstreak managed to eke out a 2-1 win in a tough game with the '97 Breeze.  Silverstreak suffered a pair of player injuries and had to play the last three innings with only 8 players.  The Breeze got out to an early 1-0 lead as their leadoff hitter got aboard in the top of the first and came in to score.  Celeste Verdolivo and Shaylyn Borowiak replayed their pitching duel from the last time these teams met and the score stayed 1-0 into the 6th inning.  In the sixth, Shaylyn led off with a single, and Nina Cook beat out the throw for an infield single.  Shaylyn stole third, and came home on a throwing error to tie the game.  Then with two outs, Baylee Opperman drove in the winning run with a triple to right-center.  Shaylyn struck out 12 over 7 innings.

In the third game, Silverstreak bats came alive in an 11-0 win over the California Rapids.  Kaone Hunter and Kady Poulos combined for the shutout.  Silverstreak rang up 13 hits, with standout performances from Nina Cook (2-4 with a double) and Shaylyn Borowiak (2-3, triple, 2 runs, rbi)  Delanie Chrisman, Baylee Opperman, and Katie Quist all had two hits in the game.  Special thanks to Brynn Tompkins, who came and filled in for injured players.

Sunday
Quarterfinals

Silverstreak advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating the Chico Starz 11-2 to start the day.  Nina Cook and Shaylyn Borowiak both went 2-3 with a walk and two runs scored to lead the offense.  Kaone Hunter also went 2-3 with a pair of runs, and Micaela Martinez returned from yesterday's injury with a double. 

Semifinals
Silverstreak defeated the West Coast Ghosts 2-0 in a pitchers duel.  The game was still 0-0 going into the bottom of the fifth.  Micaela Martinez opened the bottom of the fifth with a single, and Shaylyn sacrificed her over to 2nd.  Micaela stole third and scored on Katie Quist's RBI single.  Delanie Chrisman singled and worked her magic on the base paths to earn Silverstreak a second run in the bottom of the sixth.  Shaylyn struck out 12 over 7 innings while giving up only 2 hits.  Ghosts pitchers gave up only 4 hits and struck out 6.

Championship Game
In the title game, Silverstreak defeated the Caliofornia Breeze '97 by the score of 4-3.  It was the third duel between Shaylyn Borowiak and Celeste Verdolivo in the last three weeks.  Both teams were seeing the ball a lot better, and both defenses were a little shakier than in the past meetings, as runners were on the base paths in nearly every inning.  Amber Wright led off the game for the Breeze by reaching on an error and came in to score, giving the Breeze a 1-0 lead after the first half inning.  Delanie Chrisman walked with one out in the Silversteak half of the first, stole second and scored on Baylee Opperman's single.  The game remained tied 1-1 until the bottom of the third.  In the top of the third, Makenna Noya of the Breeze doubled with one out.  Sam Kile drove the ball into center field, but Delanie's perfect throw home held the runner at third.  Shaylyn struck out the next batter to end the inning.  In the bottom of the third, Delanie led off with a hit and stole second.  Katie Quist drove her in with a single to give Silverstreak a 2-1 lead that held until the 7th inning.  In the top of the 7th, Bailee Gray led off with a single and was sacrificed to second.  A walk and a single loaded the bases with one out.  Leadoff hitter Amber Wright earned the second nine pitch walk of the inning to bring in the tying run, and Molly Fowkes singled in the go ahead run.  The score entering the bottom of the seventh was now 3-2 Breeze.  Nina Cook led off the inning with an infield single, and Delanie sacrificed her to 2nd, reaching base on an error, and Micaela Martinez moved the runners to second and third with a great bunt.  Baylee Opperman put the ball in play, but the Breeze earned the second out of the inning forcing Nina Cook at home.  Katie Quist blooped the ball into short right field to bring in both Delanie and Baylee and win the game.


9/25-26/2010

Silverstreak loses to the California Breeze in the 8th inning in the tournament semi-finals.


Saturday
In the first game, Silverstreak defeated the Chico Starz 12-1, breaking out the bats with 8 first inning runs.  Kaone Hunter and Ciera Begley drove in four runs on back to back doubles during a 6 hit inning.  Baylee Opperman, Delanie Chrisman and Katie Quist all contributed 2 hits in the game.  Kaone Hunter pitched in her first tournament game for Silverstreak, striking out 6 in three perfect innings.

In game 2, Silverstreak got out early again scoring 7 first inning runs on their way to a 9-1 victory.  Shaylyn Borowiak gave up two hits over five innings and the team played solid defense.  Delanie Chrisman went 3-3 to key the offense.

Game 3 against the Redding Rebels got off to a rough start, with the Silverstreak down 3-2 after three innings.  The bats came alive in the fourth with Baylee Opperman and Nina Cook doubling on the way to a five run inning.  With the Silverstreak up 7-3 entering the fifth, the Silverstreak offense went to work again.  Silverstreak scored 12 runs on 8 hits, including triples from Kaone Hunter and Samantha Strong.  Delanie Chrisman finished the game on the mound with a perfect inning and hit two triples in the game.

Sunday
In the quarter-finals, the Silverstreak won their rematch with the Redding Rebels 9-2.  Samantha Strong and Nina Cook both had two hits to key the offense.  Kaone Hunter also had a two run single.  Delanie Chrisman ended the game with a spectacular sliding catch in center field.

In the semi-finals, met up with the California Breeze, the eventual tournament champions.  In the top of the first inning, Samantha Strong walked, and Katie Quist drove in the first run of the game with a double to the left center gap.  From that point on, Shaylyn Borowiak of the Silverstreak and Celeste Verdolivo of the Breeze engaged in a pitching duel.  The Breeze broke through for a run in the third on a pair of Silverstreak errors.  Time expired with a 1-1 tie at the end of 6 innings.  In the first tie-breaker inning, both teams failed to score.  The Breeze held the Silverstreak again in the top of the eighth,  and Amber Wright of the Breeze drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.  Shaylyn Borowiak scattered 4 hits over 7 innings and finished with 12 strikeouts.  Breeze pitcher Celeste Verdolivo gave up three hits and struck out 11.



9/18-19/2010
Silverstreak wins second consecutive tournament.

Silverstreak goes 4-1 in Lincoln this week to win their second consecutive ASA tournament.

Saturday
In the first game, Silverstreak defeated Capital City Comets-Loomis in a tough 2-0 game.  In a pitching duel between Shaylyn Borowiak and Leslie Pilgrim from the Comets, Shaylyn helped herself at the plate with a two run single.  Shaylyn rang up 10 strikeouts over 6 scoreless innings.

In the second game, a strong start from the Elk Grove Thunder led to the Silverstreak's first defeat of the year.  Elk Grove got out to a 8-1 lead.  The offense got moving with triples by Baylee Opperman and Nina Cook as the Silverstreak fought back.  The final score was 8-6.

In the final game of the day, Silverstreak defeated Foothill Force by the score of 7-3.  Nina Cook led off the game with a home run, and added a single and triple later in the game.  Katie Quist and Ciera Begley also contributed triples.


Sunday
In the semi-finals, Silverstreak got a rematch with the Elk Grove Thunder.  Nina Cook started where she left off by homering from teh leadoff spot.  Delanie Chrisman worked her way around the bases and scored on Baylee Opperman's single.  Micaela Martinez went 2-3, and scored a run on Shaylyn Borowiak's double in the fourth inning.  Shaylyn Borowiak pitched 7 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts for the victory.

Championship Game
In the Championship Game, Silverstreak defeated Capital City Comets-Loomis 2-1 for the title.  Nina Cook reached base on an error to lead off the game and scored on Katie Quist's 2 out bases loaded single.  The Comets responded in the bottom of the first as leadoff hitter Tessa Harris walked and scored on a single.  For the next 4 innings, Comets pitcher Raeanna Young and Silverstreak ace Shaylyn Borowiak kept the offenses in check.  Young recorded a total of 12 strikeouts.  In the fifth inning, Shaylyn was injured by a line drive into her pitching hand.  Ciera Begley came in with runners on first and second with one out and got out of the jam with the score tied 1-1.  In the top of the sixth, with time running out, Delanie Chrisman got on base and worked her way around the bases.  She scored on a close play following a wild pitch.  The Comets leadoff hitter walked to start the bottom of the sixth, and advanced to second on a sac bunt.  Ciera got the next two hitters to ground out to end the game.


9/11-12/2010

Silverstreak wins first tournament of the year.


Silverstreak went 6-0 this weekend to win the ASA tournament in Davis.

Saturday
In the first game, Silverstreak defeated
the Neveada County Intensity 9-1.  Shaylyn Borowiak and Kady Poulos combined on a 2-hitter, and Katie Quist went 2-3 with a double and a pair of RBI to lead the offense.
In the second game the Silverstreak defeated Strike Zone 4-0.  The game was tied 0-0 at the end of five innings, until Samantha Strong broke the game open with a 2 run double.  Shaylyn threw 6 shutout innings, allowing only three hits.  Baylee Opperman went 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
In the final game Saturday, Silverstreak defeated the Davis Commotion 8-1.  Kady Poulos and Ciera Begley combined on a 1-hitter as the Silverstreak finished first in their pool.


Sunday
In the opener Sunday, Silverstreak defeated the West Coast Ghosts 8-0.  The first 6 Silverstreak batters reached base in a 5 run first inning, and Ciera Begley and Delanie Chrisman added RBI triples in later innings.  Kady Poulos and Shaylyn Borowiak combined to limit the Ghosts to one hit.
In the semi-finals, Silverstreak defeated the Navato Heat 6-0.  Shaylyn struck out 14 over 7 in a one hit shutout, and Samantha Strong went 3-3 with a walk and a double to key the offense.


Championship Game
In a rematch from the team's toughest game on Saturday, Silverstreak defeated Strike Zone 10-1 to win the tournament.  Shaylyn threw five innings of one hit ball, and Nina Cook went 2-3 with a triple and two RBI in the leadoff spot.

For the tournament, the team hit .363, led by Katie Quist's .470 and the pitchers did not yield an earned run in 34 innings.  The Silverstreak outscored their opponents 45 to 3.
