ASA Nationals - Midland, TX
Pool Schedule
Bracket

Silverstreak ended a great season with a 3-3 showing in their first appearance a Nationals.  The team learned how close, and how far they are from winning a national championship.  The tournament started with a tight 2-1 loss in a very winnable game against the t-9th place Birmingham Thunderbolts, followed by a win against the Odessa Impact.  The loss to Birmingham gave the team a 3 seed, and set a difficult path to the title.  In the first bracket game  was against another team tied for 9th, the Wellington Wild from Florida and the most difficult pitcher the team faced.  Once in the losers bracket, the team had to win 13 games to get to the title.  They had two fantastic comeback wins that showed a lot of poise and grit to play their way to Friday.  Then they lost a game that was disappointing.  The team came out flat on offense, sloppy on defense, and failed to take advantage of opportunities.  The team failed to turn any of the 8 base runners in the first four innings into runs, and helped the Impact put runs on the board.

In all, it was a great experience for the team, and it really opened their eyes to how hard they have to work to compete with the best teams in the country.

This was the last tournament for Silverstreak, as coach Michele Granger is moving to the new Team California Demarini organization.  Many of the Silverstreak girls may find a home on the new 14U and 16U teams.

Pool Games
Monday
Birmingham Thunderbolts 97 2 - Silverstreak 1     box
Silverstreak lost a tough game to the Birmingham Thunderbolts in the opening game of pool play.  In the top of the first, the Thunderbolts got a runner aboard and moved to second, but Shaylyn Borowiak ended the threat.  Silverstreak went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first.  In the second inning the first two Thunderbolts walked, and then sacrificed to 2nd and 3rd.  With one out the next batter bunted back to the pitcher and Silverstreak got the runner at home.  A groundout to 2nd ended the inning without a run.  In the bottom of the 2nd, Katie Quist singled with one out, but no one scored.  In the top of the third inning, the Bolts started with a single.  The next batter bunted, and a throwing error brought in the first run of the game.  The next batter flied to right-center.  Centerfielder Delanie Chrisman made a great catch, but the runner scored from 3rd to give the Thunderbolts a 2-0 lead.  Nina Cook delivered a 2-out single in the bottom of the third, and stole second, but the inning ended 2-0.  Shaylyn Borowiak cruised the rest of the way, allowing 2 hits and no walks for the last four innings.  In the bottom of the fourth, Sammi Strong doubled to right field to lead off the inning.  Baylee Opperman singled up the middle to move Sammi to 3rd.  Sammi scored on Lali Garza's groundout to short to bring to 2-1.  In the 6th, Kelli Bates reached base on an error, but was caught at 2nd on a very close play on Baylee Opperman's ground ball to 3rd.  Katie Quist singled to move Baylee to 3rd base, and then courtesy runner Taylor Haynes took 2nd to put runners at 2nd and third with 2 outs.  Thunderbolts pitcher Claire Graves got the strikeout to end the threat.  In the 7th, Kady Poulos drew a 2-out walk, and Nina Cook singled to move her to 2nd, but a soft fly ball to the Thunderbolts pitcher ended the game.

The Thunderbolts played a very good game, with great pitching and defense.  Silverstreak had their chances, but couldn't come through.

Tuesday
Silverstreak 9 - Odessa Impact 1      box
After a tough loss yesterday to the Birmingham Thunderbolts (who won again today to take the #1 seed from our pool), Silverstreak was back in action against the Odessa Impact.  Shaylyn Borowiak was in the circle, and cruised through the first inning with two strikeouts.  Nina Cook went 4 for 4 today, and started off with single, and scored on a throwing error.  After Sammi Strong reached on an error, Katie Quist drove her home with a single to left, giving Silverstreak a 2-0 lead after one.  In the top of the 2nd, the first Impact hitter hit a soft fly ball over the shortstop, but left fielder Sydnie Hersh made a great running catch.  After a walk, Odessa scored their only run of the game with some heads up baserunning.  Ciera Begley singled, and was moved to third on a single from Nina Cook and  a bunt single from Taylor Haynes.  Ciera scored on a passed ball to give Silverstreak a 3-1 lead after two innings.  No one scored in the third, as Shaylyn struck out the side.  In the fourth, Shaylyn reached base on a throwing error on a bunt and scored on Nina Cooks single.  After Sammi Strong singled, Baylee Opperman drove in Nina for a 5-1 lead.  Silverstreak added three more runs in the fifth, keyed by Shaylyn's bunt single and Nina Cook's two run double to right-center.  In the sixth, Baylee Opperman singled, took second on a ground ball, stole third and scored on Lali Garza's double to end the game with the mercy rule.

Double Elimination Bracket Play
Wednesday
Wellington Wild (FL) 6 - Silverstreak 0      box
Wellington pitcher Gabbee Draney controlled the game, shutting out Silverstreak over 7 innings, striking out 6 and allowing only one hit.  Silverstreak leadoff hitter Nina Cook singled to left to start the game.  Taylor Haynes sacrificed Nina to second, but a pair of strikouts ended the threat.  Shaylyn Borowiak and the defense held the Wild down for 2 innings, but a single and two walks loaded the bases in the third with no outs.  The next batter hit the ball up the middle hard.  Shaylyn knocked the ball down, but we couldn't get the out and one run scored.  An error on the next play  allowed a second run, with the bases still loaded and no outs.  Silverstreak got the out on the next three plays, but two more runs crossed the plate to give the Wild a 4-0 lead.  Silverstreak could not produce on offense, with Sammi Strong's two walks producing our only baserunners for the rest of the game.  In the sixth, the Wild pushed two more runs across to make the final 6-0.

Thursday
Silverstreak 4 - Illinois Outlaws Silver 2    box
Neither team scored in the first, but in the top of the second, Silverstreak came a little unraveled.  After a walk and a sacrifice, a Silverstreak error and another walk left the bases loaded with one out.  An outlaw single brought in one run and a fielding error on the play added another to give the Outlaws a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the second.  Lali Garza singled, and Taylor Haynes doubled her to third, but a pair of strikeouts ended the threat.  In the bottom of the third, Nina Cook continued her hot hitting with a triple to the fence and scored on Kelli Bates sac bunt to cut the Outlaw lead in half, 2-1 after 3 innings.  The Outlaws threatened again in the top of the fourth, but Nina Cook and Delanie Chrisman each gunned down runners at home to end the threats.  In the bottom of the fourth, Silverstreak continued to chip away.  Lali Garza led off with a single, took second on a passed ball and third on a Kady Poulos groundout.  With 2 outs, Shaylyn Borowiak laid down a great bunt and reached base on the throwing error as Lali crossed the plate to tie the game 2-2.  In the fifth, Sammi Strong reached on a error, and Baylee Opperman sacrificed her to second.  Sammi moved to third on Katie Quist's groundout.  The Outlaws decided to pitch around a 2 for 2 Lali Garza, issuing a full count walk without giving her a decent pitch.  Lali moved to second base without a play.  With 2 outs, and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Taylor Haynes struck out, but the ball hit the ground, and Taylor sprinted to first, evading the tag.  The Outlaw catcher evidently didn't realize there were two outs, and elected to hold Sammi at third instead of throwing Taylor out.  Sammi got caught off third and got in a pickle.  Sammi evaded the tag for several throws and the ball was thrown out into left field as she tried to slide back into 3rd.  Sammi and Lali both scored on the overthrow to give Silverstreak a 4-2 lead.  Shaylyn Borowiak and the defense settled in after the 2nd inning, allowing only a single hit over the last 5 innings to close the door for the win and keep Silverstreak hopes alive.  Nina Cook went 4 for 4 with a triple, and Lali Garza was 2 for 2 and scored 2 runs.

Silverstreak 7 - San Jose Sting 5   box
Silverstreak faced the Sting for the third time this season.  Silverstreak won the first game 9-4, and the Sting won the rematch, knocking Silverstreak out of the Memorial Day Tournament with a 2-0 win.  In a win or go home game, the Sting came out first.  After a scoreless first innings, Silverstreak also came up empty in the top of the second.  In the bottom of the second, the Sting got on the board with a single, a walk, and a throwing error for a 1-0 lead.  Silverstreak could not take advantage of Micaela Martinez's single in the third, but a single and double from the Sting gave them a 2-0 lead after three innings.  Silverstreak went down 1-2-3 in the fourth, and the Sting turned a pair of singles and an error into two more runs for a 4-0 lead after 4 innings.  Both teams went down quietly in the fifth, but in the 6th, Silverstreak finally got on the board.  Kelli Bates singled to end an 0 for 10 tournament, and after a pair of fielder's choice plays, Lali Garza doubled to drive in Baylee Opperman from first to make the score 4-1.  The Sting got the run back in the bottom of the sixth, with a pair of singles and a passed ball to give them a seemingly insurmountable 5-1 lead going into the 7th inning.

With one out, Delanie Chrisman broke out of her slump with a single, followed by Micaela Martinez's 3rd single of the game.  Nina Cook followed with an rbi single to cut the lead to 5-2.  Kelli Bates singled for the second straight at-bat, this time over the first baseman to drive in another run.    With the score 5-4, Sammi Strong singled to drive in the tying run, bringing the score to 5-5.  In the bottom of the 7th, Silverstreak held on, pushing the game to extra innings.

In the 8th, Lali Garza started on 2nd, for the international tie-breaker.  She took third on a passed ball, then Katie Quist broke the tie with a single to bring Lali home.  Kaone Hunter, running for Katie, stole second and scored on Micaela Martinez's fourth hit of the game to give Silverstreak a 7-5 lead.

Shaylyn Borowiak shut the door in the 8th with a pair of strikeouts to preserve the win.

Friday
Spring-Klein Impact 7 - Silverstreak 3        box
Silverstreak's final game ended in disappointment, as the team failed to advance at Nationals.  The opposing pitcher created openings for Silverstreak by walking 7 and hitting a batter as Silverstreak sent 5 batters to the plate in each of the first four innings.  While the Impact pitcher was putting runners on for free, no one was able to earn their way on, as Silverstreak did not get their first hit of the game until the 6th inning.  Silverstreak defense was sloppy, with 4 errors contibuting to the Impact offense.  In the 3rd, their leadoff hitter reached on an error.  After a sacrifice, a walk and a hit, the bases were loaded with one out.  Another single broke the 0-0 tie and left the bases loaded.  After a fly ball for the second out, Impact 1B Jessica Taylor crushed a triple to left to clear the bases and give the Impact a 4-0 lead.  In the fourth, a walk and a pair of passed balls put a runner at third with no outs for the Impact.    An error allowed the run to score and put a runner at first.  After a single, an error on a fly ball resulted in two more runs to give the impact a 7-0 lead after 4.  Sydnie Hersh came in to pitch and kept the Impact in check the rest of the way, but Silverstreak had a long way to climb.  In teh sixth, Lali Garza walked and then Delanie Chrisman crushed a two run HR way over the left field fence to put Silverstreak on the board 7-2.    In the 7th, Kelli Bates bunted her way on and scored on Baylee Oppermans single to bring Silverstreak within 4 with one out.  Ciera Begley's hard line drive was caught by the right fielder, who doubled off Baylee at first to end the game.

Micaela Martinez hit .333 and was phenomenal at second base again.

Shaylyn Borowiak threw 10 shutout innings and dominated the opposition.
Delanie Chrisman hit a ball that would have cleared a 200 foot fence, but was out at home on a great throw.
Taylor Haynes got down some critical bunts against Norcal Blast and made an amazing catch in the outfield that would have been an extra base hit.

Nina Cook and Micaela Martinez also turned a 6-4-3 double play (along with two other double plays from the defense) on Saturday, and almost got another one on Sunday.  The defense was very sharp for the most part, and the hitting has been outstanding.

Silverstreak 17 - Foothill Gold - Wright 2      box

Foothill scored 2 runs on 4 walks and a passed ball in the top of the first, but their lead didn't last long.  Silverstreak scored 15 runs on 14 hits in the bottom of the first, including a two run triple from Lali Garza.  Kaone Hunter shut the door on the mound, and doubled and scrored to invoke the mercy rule after 2.5 innings.  12 of 13 Silverstreak batters got hits, with Nina Cook going 3 for 3 to lead the way.

Sunday

Silverstreak 5 - NorCal Blast 96 0     box
Silverstreak batters faced a difficult challenge in this game, as Norcal Blast pitcher Rebecca Faulkner was throwing 60+ mph with great control.  Faulkner, playing with the West Bay Nuggets, eliminated Silverstreak from this tournament last year.  Shaylyn Borowiak was in the circle for Silverstreak.  Both pitchers cruised through the first inning, but in the top of the 2nd, two singles gave the Blast runners at the corners with one out.  Shaylyn struck out the next two batters to end the threat.  In the bottom of the 2nd, Baylee Opperman led off with a triple into the right-center gap.  After Lali Garza reached on a FC, Faulkner struck out three straight to keep the score 0-0.  Shaylyn breezed through the top of the 3rd, and Silverstreak came out with a different strategy.  Taylor Haynes reached base on a misfielded bunt, and Ciera Begley pushed a bunt past past the pitcher for a hit.  Kaone Hunter laid down another bunt, and Taylor Haynes slid under the tag at home for the first run of the game.  In the bottom of the 4th, with the score still 1-0, Silverstreak continued to play small ball against this exceptional pitcher.  Nina Cook beat out the throw after a high bouncing ball to SS.  Kelli Bates sacrificed her to second, but a throwing error put her on base.  Baylee Opperman then continued her torrid hitting with a 2 run single up the middle.  Lali Garza laid down a bunt to move Baylee to second, but another throwing error put Lali on as well.  Katie Quist then crushed a double down the left field line to score another pair of runs.  Shaylyn cruised through the rest of the game on the way to a 5 hit shutout.

Silverstreak 12 - Lokahi 5     box
Silverstreak played Lokahi, all the way from Hawaii, in the last game of the tournament.  After a 0-0 tie in the first inning, Silverstreak brought home two runs in the second with singles from Baylee Opperman and Lali Garza.  After Kady Poulos struck out the side in the bottom of the second, the Silverstreak bats came to life.  After three singles, Kaone Hunter unleashed a three run home run to deep center.  Delanie Chrisman then crushed the ball to left center, but was thrown out at home.  After Nina Cook was hit by a pitch, Kelli Bates and Sammi Strong hit back to back home runs to left field to give Silverstreak an 8-0 lead after 3 innings.  The defense lapsed a little late in the game with several misplays and errors as Lokahi made the score 9-4.  In the top of the 6th, Baylee Opperman singled, Lali Garza doubled off the third baseman's foot, and Katie Quist singled in Baylee.  Ciera Begley then singled into the right-center gap to score Lali and Katie for a 12-5 lead.  One more inning of sloppy defense earned the team a short practice session at the end of the tournament.

16U Summer Showdown - July 16-17, 2011
Tournament Champions     Tourney stats
Despite some spotty defense, some wild pitching and some offensive lulls, the team came up big when it mattered with clutch hitting, pitching and defense.  Silverstreak went undefeated in their first 16U tournament with big contributions up and down the lineup.

Baylee Opperman was the offensive star, going 15 for 22 with 3 doubles, a triple and 14 RBI.
Katie Quist was stellar behind the plate and hit .600 with a .733 on base percentage including 4-4 in the championship game.
Ciera Begley hit .500 and went 4 for 5 in the championship game.
Nina Cook was also 4 for 5 in the championship game and hit .470 for the weekend.
Sammi Strong hit .437 with 3 doubles, and led the team with 9 runs in the tournament.  She also made a ton of great plays at 3rd base.
Shaylyn Borowiak hit .416 and held opponents to just 4 earned runs in 22 innings of work.  She threw most of the last two games on Sunday against the toughest competition.
Delanie Chrisman crushed two over-the-fence home runs and made some great plays in center field, including a throw to catch a runner at home in the championship game.
Kady Poulos hit .300 with a .533 on base percentage and allowed only 3 hits in 5 innings on the mound.
Kaone Hunter hit 2 doubles and got on base 5 times in 6 plate appearances on Sunday.  She also pitched well on Sunday, throwing a 4 hit shutout in the first game.
Micaela Martinez was phenomenal in the field this weekend, showing incredible range at 2nd base.  She also hit .294 and reached base in 9 of her 19 plate appearances.
In the championship game, when the Heat were seeing hitting the ball well, Sydnie Hersh came in and rescued the team.  Sydnie got us out of a tough jam, and through the next inning, allowing Shaylyn some critical rest and throwing the Heat off balance.  Sydnie also hit the ball hard this weekend and made some big contributions offensively against the Comets in the semifinals.

Lali Garza, nursing a broken thumb, did a great job behind the plate against the Comets and ran the bases all weekend.

Saturday
Silverstreak 17 - Aztek Fastpitch 2    box
Silverstreak started the tournament with some sloppy defense, as a pair of errors put the team down 2-0 in the top of the first inning.  Silverstreak responded in a big way in the bottom of the first, scoring 12 runs on 10 hits, including 3 doubles (two from Sammi Strong) and a triple from Delanie Chrisman.  Kady Poulos struck out the side in the 2nd inning on 12 pitches, and then the offense went back to work.  Silverstreak scored five more runs in the second inning, with Kaone Hunter's double and Nina Cook's 2 RBI single doing most of the damage.  Sydnie Hersh struck out two, and Katie Quist gunned down a runner to end the game after 2.5 innings.

Silverstreak 4 - Foothill Gold - Specchiali 2    box
Shaylyn Borowiak controlled the Foothill Gold in game 2, scattering 5 hits over 7 innings and surrendering only 2 unearned runs.  Silverstreak broke open a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 3rd, when Ciera Begley singled and Delanie Chrisman blasted a 2 out, 2 run home run over the left field fence.  Foothill scored a run in the top of 4 after an error and a pair of hits.  The score remained 2-1 into the bottom of the 6th.  Ciera Begley led off the 6th with a single, and Nina Cook sacrificed her to 2nd.  With 2 outs, Sammi Strong singled, but the Gold held Ciera at 3rd.  Baylee Opperman doubled home Ciera and Sammi to give Silverstreak a 3 run cushion.  In the top of 7, an error and another pair of hits brought in a run to make it 4-2, but a great play by Sammi Strong at 3rd ended the threat and the game.

Silverstreak 8 - East Bay Pirates 6    box
Silverstreak started strong against the East Bay Pirates.  Leadoff hitter Nina Cook walked, and Delanie Chrisman absolutely crushed the ball 20 feet over the left field fence to give Silverstreak a 2 run lead.  It was Delanie's second shot over the fence in her last three at-bats.  Sammi Strong walked and scored on consecutive singles by Baylee Opperman and Katie Quist.  Baylee scored on a passed ball to make the score 4-0 after half an inning.  The Pirates scored two runs on three walks and a hit to make it 4-2 after 1 inning.  The Pirates picked up another run in the third and three more in the 4th to take a 6-4 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.  Shaylyn Borowiak led off with a single, and Nina bunted her to 2nd.  After Sammi Strong was hit by a pitch, Baylee Opperman came through again.  Her two-run single tied the game.  After Katie Quist was hit by a pitch, Ciera Begley drove in a run with a single to take the lead, and Micaela Martinez tacked on another run with an RBI single.  Shaylyn Borowiak came in to pitch the 5th and 6th to closed out the game.

Sunday
Quarterfinals
Silverstreak 8 - Aztek Fastpitch 0      box
As the #2 seed after pool play, Silverstreak had to win 3 games to win the tournament.  First up was the Aztek Fastpitch team that Silverstreak demolished the day before.  Silverstreak was in for a surprise, because Aztek came to play on Sunday.  Nina Cook walked and scored on Sammi Strong's double in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead, and then the offense stalled.  Aztek played solid defense, and Pitcher Serena Castro kept the Silverstreak offense off balance.  The game was still 1-0 going into the bottom of the 4th.  Ciera Begley got on base with a 2-out single, and Micaela Martinez singled to move her over.  Ciera scored on an error to give Silverstreak a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth, Delanie Chrisman struck out, but reached base on a dropped third strike.  After Sammi Strong bunted her to 2nd, Baylee Opperman came through again with an RBI triple, and scored on Micaela Martinez's RBI single to give Silverstreak a 4-0 lead after 5.  After three walks and a hit batter, Baylee Opperman ended the game with a two run double to invoke the mercy rule.  Kaone Hunter pitched a great game, shutting out Aztek on 4 hits.

Semifinals
Silverstreak 4 - Capital City Comets - Esparza 1   box
In the Semifinals, Silversteak faced a Comets team that had crushed their opponents in 3 of their 4 games, losing only to the #1 seed Roseville Heat in pool play.  In the top of the first, Silverstreak scored on singles from Sammi Strong and Baylee Opperman.  Despite having a baserunner in the fourth, and two each in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th, Silverstreak could not push another run across.  Shaylyn Borowiak was holding the Comets in check as well, allowing only one hit through the first five innings.  The Silverstreak defense was playing well in this game, fielding cleanly on every play.  Sammi Strong at 3rd, Nina Cook at SS and Micaela Martinez at 2B were all making easy work of tough plays.  In the top of the 6th, with the score still 1-0, Kaone Hunter walked, and Nina Cook and Delianie Chrisman both singled.  With 2 outs and the bases loaded, Baylee Opperman came to the plate again.  Baylee was 13-16 in the tournament to this point, 3-3 in the game, and Baylee came through again with a 3 run, two out triple to give Silverstreak a 4-0 lead after 6.  In the bottom of the 7th, Comet Jenn Woo drove a home run over the center field fence to make the score 4-1.  After a walk and a single, Shaylyn struck out a batter for the second out.  The next batter hit a hard ground ball to Sammi Strong, who scooped it up and stepped on 3rd for the force and the game.

Championship Game
Silverstreak 11 - Roseville Heat - Edgar 5   box
The championship game was a rematch of the Metros championship.  In this tournament, as in Metros, the Heat rolled over the opposition with ease, while Silverstreak struggled their way to to the championship game.  In Metros, Silverstreak came out on top, winning a defensive struggle 2-1 over 7 tough innings.

In the top of the first, Heat pitcher Maddie Wuelffing shut down Silverstreak and the game seemed to be following the same script.  The bottom of the first was a different story.  Leadoff hitter Tara McIntyre doubled, and Mack Priley bunted her to 3rd.  Anjelica Cisneros, Brina Buttacavoli, Mikayla McLanahan and Maddie Wuelffing all singled as the Heat took a 3-0 lead.  The Heat offense looked like they had Shaylyn Borowiak's number this time.

Silverstreak responded with authority in the 2nd.  Katie Quist walked and Ciera Begley singled.  Micaela Martinez reached on a fielder's choice and then Kady Poulos sinlged in two runs.  Nina Cook singled and Sam Strong delivered a two run single.  Katie Quist singled, and Ciera Begley hit her second single of the inning to make the score 7-3.  Micaela Martinez then singled for the 7th hit of the inning as Silverstreak sent 13 batters to the plate.

Silverstreak and the Heat both managed base runners, but no runs in the 2nd and 3rd.  In the bottom of the 4th, four Heat hits, including a double from Brina Buttacavoli led to two more Heat runs and the scored tightened to 7-5.  In the top of the 6th, with the score 7-5, Katie Quist and Ciera Begley singled, and Kady Poulos followed with a walk to load the bases with 2 outs.  Shaylyn Borowiak delivered a two run single to give Silverstreak some breathing room and a 9-5 lead.  Sydnie Hersh relieved Shaylyn Borowiak on the mound in the 3rd inning and provided some critical outs in the 3rd and 4th innings.  In the fifth, Shaylyn returned and kept the Heat under control.  In the top of the 7th, Sammi Strong and Katie Quist singled.  With 2 outs, Ciera Begley delivered a 2 run single down the right field line to give Silverstreak an 11-5 lead.  In teh bottom of the 7th, Maddie Wuelffing singled and Justine Garner walked with no outs.  Katie Edgar smoked a line drive to Sammi Strong at 3rd, who caught it and doubled off Maddie Wuelffing at 2nd.  A sharp ground ball ended the game as 2B Micaela Martinez flipped the ball to SS Nina Cook at 2nd for the force to end the game.

Firecrackers pitcher Olivia Sanchez controlled the outside corner and the game, striking out nine and holding Silverstreak to 4 hits over 7 innings.  Silverstreak pitcher Shaylyn Borowiak threw a solid game, holding the Firecrackers to 6 hits over 6 innings, but the defense wasn't sharp enough for the win.   Firecrackers scored in the second following a walk and an error on a close play at the plate.  They made it 2-0 in the third as the leadoff hitter reached on an error and was doubled home by Firecrackers pitcher Olivia Sanchez, who also scored to make it 3-0.  In the fourth, Nina Cook was hit by a pitch.  Sam Strong sacrificed her to 2nd, and she scored on Baylee Opperman's single.  Firecrackers got on the board again in the bottom of the fourth on a single and a pair of Silverstreak errors to make it 4-1.  In the top of the fifth, Taylor Haynes singled and scored on Shaylyn Borowiak's ground ball.  When Shay tried to take second on the play at home, she was thrown out at 2nd, and Delanie Chrisman was caught at home for the double play to end the threat.  The score was now 4-2, but that was as close as Silverstreak would get.  Firecrackers scored one in the fifth, and Firecracker leadoff hitter Chloe Melanson hit one over the fence in the 6th to make it a 6-2 final.

Saturday
Silverstreak 3 - San Jose Lady Sharks 1     box
The Sharks loaded the bases with no outs on a hit and a  pair of errors in the second, but Silverstreak pitcher Shaylyn Borowiak and the defense escaped without giving up a run.  The Sharks threatened again in the third, but this time they scored a run on three hits.  Sharks pitcher Sam Torres shut out Silverstreak two weeks ago in the RR Gold tournament, and the Sharks decision to play their outfielders in tight paid off as they robbed Silverstreak of hits in the second and third.   Down 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, Kelli Bates reached on an error, and Sam Strong made the Sharks pay for the tight outfield as she floated a fly ball over the center fielder to score Kelli and tie the game.  In the top of the 6th, the Sharks had runners as 1st and 2nd with one out.  On a base hit, the runner from 2nd headed home, but Delanie Chrisman's throw home beat the runner, and Silverstreak ran her down in a pickle to end the threat.  The score remained tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the 7th.  Baylee Opperman singled to start the inning, and Sydnie Hersh singled as well.  After a passed ball moved them to 2nd and 3rd,   Delanie Chrisman sent a 1-2 pitch into the left center gap to score both runners and win the game.

Breeze '96 6 - Silverstreak 3   box
Last week in Metros, the Breeze were unable to overcome an early defecit against Silverstreak, who went on to qualifiy for ASA Nationals.  This week, Silverstreak dug themselves the early hole, with 4 first innings walks, 2 passed balls and a costly error.  Silverstreak got two outs on the first three pitches, but after a walk and two missed defensive opportunities, the bases were loaded.  The Breeze scored their first two runs on a walk and a passed ball, before 1B Ashley Dufrense hit a two run single to give the Breeze a 4-0 lead.  Silverstreak pitcher Sydnie Hersh came in and struck out the next batter to finally end a brutal first inning.  Sydnie cruised through the next two innings, and did a great job of keeping a dangerouse Breeze lineup off balance.  In the top of the third, Sydnie Hersh led off with a double and scored on Kelli Bates single to get Silverstreak on the board 4-1.  In the top of the fourth, Baylee Opperman walked, and Taylor Haynes reached on a throwing error.  After Katie Quist drew a walk to load the bases, Sydnie Hersh singled in two more runs to bring Silverstreak within 1, at 4-3.  The Breeze extended their lead with solid hitting in the 6th as time expired.  Congratulations to the Breeze, who also won their next three games to qualify for PGF Nationals.
